Guelph will host a landmark moment for the Kenyan diaspora in Canada on June 27, 2026, as the Kenya Community in Ontario (KCO) launches its first Kenya Cultural Festival at Riverside Park. Moving beyond its traditional barbecue gatherings, KCO is elevating its vision to showcase Kenyan identity through culture, unity, and community contribution.
In this interview, KCO President Dr. Charles Wambulwa explains the shift toward a full cultural festival that highlights diversity within Kenyan communities while opening the experience to all Canadians. The event will feature a family run, traditional food, music, dance, and cultural displays representing Kenya’s rich ethnic diversity.
More than a celebration, the festival positions Kenyans as active contributors to Canada’s multicultural fabric while marking both Canada Day and Madaraka Day. Open to all, it invites communities across backgrounds to connect, experience, and participate.
