On October 16, 2026, Nomad Community Services celebrated 10 years of service in Toronto. Community partners, supporters and government representatives gathered to honour a grassroots nonprofit that helps newcomer women, youth and seniors settle, learn and start businesses.
Founder and CEO Roda Egal recalled the beginning: a coffee table, six chairs and a conversation about making a difference. Since then, NOMAD has offered entrepreneurship courses, financial literacy training, settlement support and even a clothes closet to help clients prepare for job interviews. Egal said the organization assesses each woman’s skills and goals, then connects her with the right resources.
The results were visible on the night, as women who launched businesses with NOMAD’s support presented their products to guests. MPP Mohamed Firin of York South-Weston congratulated the team on behalf of the Government of Ontario and said every community deserves a Nomad. Partners such as Maragari Ventures, which co-runs the Canada Africa Business Summit with NOMAD, described a productive collaboration reaching the Greater Toronto Area, Canada and Africa. Its CEO and founder, Japheth Oguchu, called NOMAD’s strength after a decade inspiring and admirable.
Egal told the room the journey is far from over.
